Proclamation House by State of Kin is a masterclass in material expression and warm minimalism. Designed as a sanctuary for its owners, the home draws strength from its sculptural form and earthy textures, most evident in its embrace of a custom-rendered hemp plaster that wraps both inside and out.
The material finish is unusual, but its performance is tested and unique. “We collaborated closely with skilled tradespeople to perfect this finish, ensuring it was heat-proof and resistant to stains,” the designers share. It has created a refined surface with a hand-applied, breathable finish.
This bespoke hemp-based render not only sets the tone for the sculptural aesthetic throughout the home but reflects a growing shift in how natural materials are being integrated into contemporary residential design. Its warm, matte finish contrasts with the sleek cabinetry details and smart joinery in the kitchen.

Hemp as a material choice speaks to the project’s deeper environmental awareness. While it’s not explicitly marketed as a sustainability-driven home, its use of bio-based materials and emphasis on local craftsmanship makes that ethos implicit. The render is breathable, toxin-free and adds a sense of tactility that industrial finishes can’t replicate.
Throughout Proclamation House, transitions between living spaces are fluid. Light pours in from above, illuminating the hand-rendered walls to illuminate their natural variation. “The material palette, lighting and bespoke finishes enhance this sense of connection and tranquillity,” the designers explain.
Proclamation House reveals itself through touch, craft, and the power of materials like hemp that bring both purpose and innovation to the spaces we inhabit.
