Let's work together
About Futures started as a place to think out loud about design, sustainability and the future of the built environment.
Alongside the writing, About Futures Consulting also works directly with architects, designers, developers and brands who want communications that capture the essence of their work, and the impact of their sustainability claims.
There are a few ways we can work together.
Consulting services
A flagship engagement for teams who want an evidence-led comms strategy, not just more content. This is the big picture thinking.
Implementation support
For when you already know the direction, you just need someone to actually get the words, stories and content out into the world.
Templates (coming soon)
For small teams and solo practices who prefer to DIY – but would still like some structure, prompts and guardrails.
Strategic communications consulting
A hands-on, structured engagement where we look at your business goals, your sustainability work, and how you’re currently showing up in the world. Then we build a communications strategy that joins all the dots.
You’ll gain:
- a clear positioning and sustainability narrative
- clarity on the priority channels and content themes
- an actionable 6–12 month plan your team can actually use
Kick-off workshop
A working session with your key people to get everything on the table: goals, audiences, bottlenecks, current activity, constraints and non-negotiables. We’ll identify where communications can genuinely help – and where it can’t.
Strategy and messaging document
- A practical, readable document that covers:
- your positioning and core narrative
- tone of voice
- sustainability / ESD story and the validating proof points
- priority channels (web, socials, PR, events, awards, internal)
- key themes and story angles
Execution plan
A simple plan for what happens next: who does what, in what order, and the goals to strive for over the next 6–12 months. A living, breathing document to keep you on track.
Check-ins
Regular check-ins (usually monthly or quarterly) to review what’s been actioned, what’s shifted, and whether we need to adjust course.
This will be a good fit if:
- you’ve been doing real work on sustainability, but the story feels fuzzy, inconsistent or overly modest
- you’re worried about greenwashing and want to tighten the language you use and ensure the claims resonate
- you have a growing pile of case studies, awards, ESD reports and media opportunities with no coherent plan tying them together
Implementation support
For when you know where you need to go, but need help getting the words, stories and content out into the world.
This is where I roll up my sleeves and help you execute, usually off the back of a strategy we’ve developed together (or an existing one you’re happy with).
Practices with a strategy in place but no capacity to implement
Teams mid-website refresh or rebrand
Studios and brands sitting on a goldmine of projects, images and ESD work that isn’t yet telling a coherent story
Copywriting and narrative shaping
Websites, project and product pages, capability statements, ESD narratives, design reports, awards entries, editorial-style case studies and more.
Content marketing + distribution
Turning project work into content for LinkedIn, Instagram and newsletters. Setting up simple content workflows so your comms don’t vanish the moment a project heats up.
ESD and sustainability statements
Translating technical sustainability work into clear, accessible narratives for planning submissions, stakeholder packs and marketing materials.
Editorial and media
Article ideas, SEO keyword research, ghostwriting, and media materials that line up with your practice goals.
Scope – You tell me what you’re working on (e.g. site, case studies, launch, awards).
Plan – I suggest a fixed-fee package with clear deliverables, timing and revision rounds.
Delivery – I set about getting the work done, as agreed.
Templates & tools
For small teams and solo practices who prefer DIY – but would like some structure, prompts and guardrails.
I’m putting together a library of simple, practical resources for sustainability-minded design businesses. These are the self-paced, lower-cost resources that distil what I do with clients into practical tools you can use in-house.
- Studios who aren’t ready for a full consulting engagement (yet)
- Teams who like to write their own copy but want a framework
- People who enjoy a good template and a quiet afternoon of filling things in
- Messaging and tone-of-voice frameworks for sustainability-led design brands
- Sustainability / ESD statement templates
- Case study and project story blueprints
- Light-touch content planning tools and checklists
You buy a kit, work through the prompts and templates at your own pace, and adapt them to your context. If you want a second pair of eyes later, you’ll be able to book a one-off review.
