The Good Carbon Farm

The Good Carbon Farm

The Good Carbon Farm is a New Zealand–based not-for-profit making climate action visible and local by turning plant waste into biochar and returning it to the soil.

Details
Rather than allowing garden waste to break down and release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, The Good Carbon Farm transforms it into a stable, solid form – biochar – which is then donated to school gardens, community growing projects and conservation initiatives.

These spaces not only nourish their communities and ecosystems, but also become micro carbon sinks, storing carbon while improving soil health. The process strengthens plant growth, supports biodiversity, and builds climate literacy through hands-on action. In contrast to extractive models, The Good Carbon Farm operates in reverse, putting carbon back into the ground and empowering communities to be part of the solution.

Ennenda Mill by Atelier Lando Rossmaier peels back the layers on an old building to give it new life

Reviving a wounded mill: Ennenda Mühle is restitched with care

Through this restrained approach, the once-abandoned mill is revived as a home and goldsmith’s workshop while preserving the character of its historic fabric.
