Durat is a Finnish manufacturer of sustainable solid surface materials crafted from recycled plastics. Its flagship product, Durat, is a polyester-based composite containing approximately 30 per cent recycled post-industrial plastic and is fully recyclable. The material is known for its distinctive, speckled terrazzo-like appearance, achieved by incorporating granulated recycled plastic into the surface, resulting in a tactile, silky texture.
Durat offers a wide range of applications, including kitchen countertops, bathroom sinks, vanity units, and custom furniture. The material is durable, non-porous, and easy to maintain, making it suitable for both residential and commercial settings such as restaurants, hotels, schools, and healthcare facilities.
In addition to the standard Durat line, the company has developed Durat Plus, the world’s first commercially available solid surface material combining recycled PET resin and recycled solid surface, containing around 55% recycled material.
Durat is committed to circular economy principles, offering a take-back program for used products and offcuts, which are refurbished and resold as part of their Durat Circular service. The company also provides an extensive colour palette with over 300 options, including custom colours, to suit various design needs.

This installation fills a Perth CBD office floor with a soundscape and Wheatbelt-inspired landscape under fluorescent light.

Lime plaster works by letting moisture move through it. A wall finished in lime breathes – water vapour passes in and out, meaning damp doesn’t get stuck causing mould. The paint that goes on top has to do the same job, or it will undo the benefits of breathable wall finishes.
